One day...........hmmm, when was it?

xaraNow I remember! In April 2002 we moved into our new flat and gradually started missing our wonderful Zuzia (she was an orphan dog from an animal shelter in Olsztyn- and a true mongrel of course!) which stayed with my mother and grandmother. Since there had always been animals in our homes ( from fish, budgies, guinea pigs, tortoises, humming-birds, dogs, our cat Barnaba to rabbits in our garden) we felt we had no other choice but to look for another little fondling. The decision that it will not be another orphan dog this time was made quite quickly.

Frankly speaking the decision to buy Xara was caused by our laziness and common sense. We come back from work at different times and we couldn`t possibly let our favorite pet be tormented and wait desperately for us to take it for a walk. That`s why we decided to buy a cat.

After the decision had been made we pursued our goal. What happened next seemed to be one big coincidence. First with our friends from Warsaw we visited their friends in Olsztyn. And can you guess what was wandering around their flat??? Of course it was a beautiful she-cat of the British breed called Vesta. It is hard to describe properly her fluffy fur and wonderful "miaou" which she made rubbing against our legs. Unfortunately we were not able to convince her owners to sell her to us.

When we came back home we started surfing the Internet and came across a website with pictures of cats of the Russian Blue breed. And this was it! We instantly decided to get one of those little creatures. After several talks with extremely nice breeders we finally found Mr and Mrs Bisiak and their breeding of cats Blue-Bis*PL. It turned out that buying the only she-kitten of the young that were available at that time wasn`t at all easy. You must answer dozens of questions to make the other side trust you. It is certainly completely understandable, we also wouldn`t let someone untrustworthy take a member of our family. Luckily, after a couple of talks we were invited to a meeting.

Our journey from Olsztyn to Warsaw was long.....long and long. It dragged mercilessly and the only subject of conversation in the car was Kitty. We will never forget the moment we saw these extraordinary, beautiful, noble cats. Not only of the Russian Blue breed. The Bisiaks have also wonderful cats of the Norwegian Forest breed (these ones are really naughty, especially the one called Bin Laden; he was all over the place). We were lucky to get acquainted with Xara`s parents and one of her brothers. (at first we couldn`t tell the difference between them which is not surprising because we were total amateurs at that time). xara2

Xara`s father is called DK*Malevitch Lavender LAD. It is a dignified tom-cat with the European Champion title. Rapsodia Blue-Bis*PL - Xara`s mother is a proud owner of the title of International Champion. For Xara there is no other option but to follow the pattern so that in the future she could be an example for her kittens. If you are still interested in this text and you have got this far, here you will find a couple of amusing stories from Xara`s life. If you are considering buying a cat of this breed, they will give you an opportunity to get to know more about our cat`s characteristic features.

- we had to wait for about 40 minutes after our arrival from Warsaw and opening the cage (which we call UFO) till she finally decided to get out. Teasing her out with different toy-mice and balls didn`t work. She was simply scared stiff. When finally, to our joy, she came out her first steps were.....to hide under the bathtub. We had to learn quite quickly to cover all the holes she loved to explore.xara2

- Every day at about 5 am Xara jumps into the bed and for a couple of minutes she "pumps" my small, red and soft pillow I sleep on. It lasts till I open my eyes and greet her with stroking. Then she lies down and starts murmuring out of happiness and joy, as we think. - her favourite toy: a little green mouse with a small ball inside - already without the tail :)

-Xara loves eating fish (not any kind of fish - just the ones my father catches in lakes and rivers). Surprisingly, like us, she likes perch most. (the fish has to be treated with boiling water first - she doesn`t like completely raw flesh). Xara has got the taste and is demanding!!!

- Every morning she approaches the container with cat`s food Hill`s and brushes her little muzzle against it to show us that she is hungry. For some time she managed to trick us both to get double breakfast :) A clever one!

- When we come back from work we always find her waiting in the hall. Then she starts stretching and scrubing the rug with her claws, murmuring loudly at the same time.

- She always keeps an eye on us. She likes to know where we are and what we are doing. A problem appears when each of us is in a different room. But she has already found a solution! She observes both rooms sitting on the above mentioned rug in the hall.

- She likes a clean dish. As soon as it has been cleaned she approaches it, does a bit of scraping and than does what she needs to do. Sometimes her scraping, rasping and burying lasts for 5 minutes and amuses us a lot.

- She doesn`t like brushing although cutting her claws and cleaning ears is not a problem.

- She is well-behaved, cute and there are absolutely no problems with her. Only once in a while she remembers that it is great fun to climb the curtains and to run around the flat at top speed and she does it.

- She always takes part in everything that goes on in the house. She is always in places where something is happening: washing, washing up, cooking, fixing something, screwing in screws and so on.

- But what seems to be the most important thing in her life? Getting lazy! At least 8 hours a day in different positions and places like, for example, on the fridge, behind the printer, behind the computer`s monitor and on her little "display" pillow under the radiator in the bedroom.

- Her latest passion is observing the birds which, to her joy, come to a dish installed on the outside of the kitchen window. We put some lard for bullfinches and other birds there.
